How to Clean, Restore, & Repaint A Firepit

A fire pit is a great addition to any back yard because it provides a convenient place for family members and friends to come together, even on a cool evening. Unfortunately a large number of outdoor fire pits are manufactured with metal that eventually rusts. Using some simple techniques you can remove the rust and help prevent it from happening again.

Here are some tips to getting your pit looking good as new.

Take a strong wire brush and give the firepit a good scrubbing,
removing all the rust flakes and powder.
Spray some vinegar on pit and let it set awhile, longer for thicker rust spots.
The vinegar reacts with the rust to dissolve it off the metal.
Also its safe to breath and good for the environment
Wire brush again and rinse with warm water.
Let dry completely
Now you are ready to paint
From your local hardware store you can find a rust preventative spray paint.
Rustoleum makes a specialty spray paint for high heat,
which comes in several different colors
Make sure to follow all directions on back of the can
