What is Mig & Stick Welding?

What is Mig and Stick Welding?
We had a follower and good friend ask us a while back
if we could briefly explain for her to help understand these two welding procedures.
Mig Welding also known as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), is an arc welding process in
which a continuous solid wire electrode is fed through a welding gun and into the weld pool,
joining the two base materials together. A shielding gas is also sent through the
welding gun and protects the weld pool from contamination.
Stick Welding also known as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), is a manual arc
welding process that uses a consumable electrode covered with a flux to lay the weld.
As the weld is laid, the flux coating of the electrode disintegrates, giving off vapors
that serve as a shielding gas and providing a layer of slag,
both of which protect the weld area from atmospheric contamination.
